In Memory

Carol Needham (Harvell)

Beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother Mrs. Carol Needham Harvell, 64, passed on to glory on August 24, 2020.

Carol was born in Frankfurt, Germany while her dad was serving in the Army. Her family moved around the country until they settled in Durham, NC. She attended Northern High School, where she met the love of her life, Cliff. She graduated in the class of 1974. As a young woman she adored caring for and riding horses. She loved bird watching and enjoyed flowers, especially red roses. She took great pleasure in traveling to the Mountains of North Carolina.

Carol worked briefly with Hackney & Sons of Washington, in the Accounting Department; but dedicated her life as a homemaker for her family. She was a member of Chocowinity United Methodist Church where she worked with the youth and once served as a Sunday school teacher. She participated in the ecumenical movement The Emmaus Walk. Her original walk was Albemarle Emmaus # 4 and she was part of the support team a few times after that. It is no surprise that Carol enjoyed sharing Gods love but her favorite thing to do was to pray for and encourage others.

Carol will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her love for her family, her quick wit and the bravery and perseverance she demonstrated throughout her 47-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Her strength, unconditional love and beauty was and always will be immeasurable.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Earl & Emmabelle Needham; brother, Freddie Needham; Father-in-Law & Mother-in-Law, Sherlon & Wilma Harvell and Brother-in-Law Lynn Harvell.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Cliff Harvell; daughter, Melissa Beacham and husband Jeffrey, of Jamesville; son , Nathan Harvell, of Washington; granddaughter, Abigail Beacham, of Jamesville; good family friend, Joel Bishop, of Washington; sisters, Kathy Blake and husband, John, of Chadburn, NC; and; Patti Valero and husband, Frank, of Brandon FL; Brother-in-Law, Eugene Harvell and wife Laurie, of Waldwick NJ; nieces, Sara Harvell, Erin Harvell, Laura Blake, Meredith Tedder and husband Byron, and their children, Briley & Connor; and nephew, Yousef Abdelmessih;

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date when we can gather to share stories of how Carol touched our lives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National MS Society, 3101 Industrial Drive Suite 210, Raleigh, NC 27609.

So very sad, yet Carol lived such a full life.  I can't believe I was just thinking about her two days ago, and laughing at her wit that I remembered as if it were yesterday.  She is now in the loving arms of our Lord.

How very sad to hear.  I'll always remember Carol for her infectious smile and laughter.  She was so mischievous! She could really brighten up a room! At least now she no longer has to deal with the ravages of MS. Sending many positive thoughts & prayers to her family.

Cliff, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Carol was my first girlfriend and her beautiful smile will be missed, but never forgotten. I know you and Carol built a wonderful family full of the love that she exuded in her smile. Stay strong and think only of your best memories of her - we will all do the same..

RIP Carol. You left me with one memory I will never forget. At one of the reunions (high school) you danced with me and others. You was in a wheel chair. I had the best time. I can still see your smile. For a brief moment there was no one else there but us. Thank you for that memory. You taught me to appreciate life b/c you appreciated it so much.
