In Memory

Rand Shelburn

Alfred Rand Shelburn was born October 22, 1956 and passed away peacefully on April 19, 2021 at age 64. He was born in Durham, NC and was a lifelong resident. He is the son of William E. Shelburn and Hazel P. Brock, both deceased. He is survived by brother William R. Shelburn of Lynchburg, VA, niece Whitaker Shelburn and husband Lee LaGioia, great niece Taylor Shelburn, and great nephew Ben LaGioia, all of Vienna, VA. He is also survived by nephew William R. Shelburn, Jr., wife Carla Wooten and great nephew Eli Shelburn. Lee Batten of Chester, VA was also a first cousin and friend.

Rand attended NC State University and Appalachian State University. He was a building contractor his entire career.

His many friends were a testament to his loyalty and love for each of them. An avid sports fan, he never missed a chance to engage in competitive conversation with anyone who disagreed with him. He especially enjoyed his time spent with beloved friends at The Shed and Bennett Point Grille.

His infectious smile and boyish charm will be missed by all that knew him.

Donations in his memory can be made to the American Cancer Society.

A celebration of Rand’s life will be held later this year in Durham.

The family is being assisted by Clements Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. in Durham. Online condolences may be sent to www.clementsfumeralservice.com. For a permanent link to his obituary, use the link below.

Such sad news.   We grew up together on Shaftsbury Drive and I have great memories of those days.  Those times will always be remembered.   Camping out, sports and all the other fun stuff we did will always be cherished with you Randy.   RIP.   Mike V.

I stayed over at Randy's house one night when we were in Jr. High. All night horror movies! He was an excellent basketball player and an all around nice guy.
We called him "Shell Tail". Rest in peace my friend.

We all had nick names.
